I was taking my morning walk with the pup, and realized I needed a better way to gather berries and other goodies while in the woods. I used to have baskets and bags just for this, but having lost 99% of everything, baskets didn’t make the cut. This saddens me a little bit because last year I made my first handmade basket at a class taught by a wise storyteller from a local tribe. I left that first basket behind. I had been so proud of that little basket.
I did learn, however, the fundamentals, and that knowledge is more important then the actual basket as cute as it was.
And for those who don’t have a clue, or need a refresher, youtube has been a wonderful way to see how other people make baskets. https://youtu.be/mcoWRTz0y8A?si=HHj3-Gb7HRk5KJkO (I found this link very easily using the invasive ivy plant as basket material.)
Perhaps this weekend when I’m free from work, I will gather some materials from the woods and attempt another basket, one I can use for foraging with. One I don’t have to spend any money on using invasive species, preferably.
