Atmospheric Rivers are back and my heart goes out to Jamaica

There is a lot going on weather wise. Here, it’s the normal gross fall weather that starts bringing rivers of moisture and wind. Nothing too out of the ordinary yet.

But across the Atlantic Ocean an island is about to be demolished by a historically sized category 5 hurricane. Worse than any storm that has hit Jamaica before. There is little in the way of shelter there that can withstand a direct hit like that. Expect there will be deaths with this global warming fueled storm. It truly is a monster. There is not much you can do to escape an island, especially if you live in poverty.

We aren’t immune here either to horrible storms and the less wealth you have the less options you have to survive them or to move to somewhere safer.

We, had we not listened to the rich oil and coal barons could have prevented this magnitude of disaster. We, had we listened to the scientists, could have lessoned our negative impact on the atmosphere.

I have a neighbor who is adamant only the rich are at fault, not willing to believe a regular person could have any impact. Refusing to take any responsibility all while she burns plastic garbage weekly in her backyard.

WE ARE ALL AT FAULT.

And the kids, they are the ones who will suffer the greatest consequences. The pre boomers and boomers got to live as they wished, comfortably, never thinking of those that would follow who won’t have that luxury.
