Thoughts on Indigenous

I am not indigenous. My ancestors came from other places. But recent reading made me think about the whole concept. Googling tells me this: “Indigeneity is a term that refers to people or objects that are native to a certain region or environment. For example, Native American nations and Aboriginal Australians are considered indigenous. IndigeneityContinueContinue reading “Thoughts on Indigenous”

I can’t wait for this cold snap to be done.

23 this morning and clear I’m regretting that I chose not to have paper plates and utensils once I got hooked up with water and power. Dishes are a huge pain when you have to first lug in water, then boil it. I’m cold down to my bones and wearing layers. It should warm upContinueContinue reading “I can’t wait for this cold snap to be done.”

Still air and clear skies-

Clear, frosty (probably mid 20’s) A picture from early in the year. These are a sign of a cold night here. And it was indeed a cold night again. I was prepared for it this time having shut off my water before hand to prevent any damage to my pipes. Pipes that are not asContinueContinue reading “Still air and clear skies-“

Frozen toes and frozen water lines…

I mentioned yesterday that I didn’t have my own little weather station yet. This morning is precisely why it’s nice to have one. Weather station apps online all say we are above freezing. 38 seems to be the consensus if you go by the online weather stations. It’s not 38. 38 would mean I don’tContinueContinue reading “Frozen toes and frozen water lines…”

Sun out, frost in.

That’s the way of winter here. If it’s clear, you get the cold mornings. The frosts. Not Midwest or mountain cold, but you’ll get ice on the windshield and frozen water buckets, which usually thaws by afternoon. Clouds usually moderate the winter temperature here. Which is another reason I chose this area. I’ve lived inContinueContinue reading “Sun out, frost in.”

Can I Trust This?

I’ve heard it before. “You can live here as long as you want.” Usually comes when someone realizes how useful to them I am. “Help take care of so and so” “Till death do us part” “Help to buy this land” “Help maintain this place, develop it” It’s from people I once respected and gaveContinueContinue reading “Can I Trust This?”

Get Them While You Can

Climate change, regime change, and preventable illness. I can’t tell you how many times a day I hear around this area that scientists and Doctors are fake and out to harm people. As someone who has a degree in the sciences it’s rather insulting and also false. Why would we spend our whole lives tryingContinueContinue reading “Get Them While You Can”

Only Minimal Damage on the Homestead

The reason I chose this particular location, was because I studied the possible wind patterns. The reason I chose to have no large growing trees near my little home is also because I have seen what that can do to a home and human lives. Yes, the shade is very nice, especially in hot climatesContinueContinue reading “Only Minimal Damage on the Homestead”
