So many tomatoes ripe at once. To say I’ve been busy is an understatement. And that’s on top of having the Covid. I went to the trouble of masking in public. I hunted down and fought for the newest Covid variant vaccine. And it was a fight because I’m not 65 and the confusion MrContinueContinue reading “Catch Up (ketchup?)”

I’ve been busy preserving food.
I don’t think the others on the homestead really take food preservation very seriously. As I’m working diligently to fill my own place up with dehydrated cabbage, fermented concoctions, dehydrated fruits, canned and frozen foods they don’t seem to do the same or care too. But they call my other garden projects useless (like theContinueContinue reading “I’ve been busy preserving food.”
Never seen the wind like that there.
I grew up in that town with my grandparents. I’d seen flooding but have never seen wind this bad there. But I left that area 7 years ago because of the heat and the worsening weather due to global warming. Still a shock to see. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Rg1awFun3/?mibextid=wwXIfr I’m sorry, it’s a Facebook link.
How much rain did a category 3 atmospheric river hit us with?
It’s still raining a bit now and then but the bulk of the rain has moved on I do believe. As of 12:30 pm Saturday (today) my weather station has recorded 4.57” of rain since late Thursday night. This is definitely much more than what the weather apps are recording. 1 suggests only 1.85”, anotherContinueContinue reading “How much rain did a category 3 atmospheric river hit us with?”
Moist.
(Only because that is my favorite word to say to make people uncomfortable 🤣) But it really is wet out there. So far this atmospheric river has dumped 2.59” of rain as of this moment at 5 pm Friday evening. At least it wasn’t raining so much on the other side of the mountain whileContinueContinue reading “Moist.”
Bearded Iris
One of my favorite flowers. I had a little energy today so decided to dig up a bit of ground before we are hit with an atmospheric river that’s on the way. Dug up, grass roots removed, soil amended and Iris roots that arrived yesterday planted. Added a wild lupine seedling because I still haveContinueContinue reading “Bearded Iris”

People living there generally know how to deal with the heat and the majority have air conditioning. But heat like what is now being experienced is more dangerous. Not just for humans. Animals and plants alsoContinueContinue reading “Heat Kills”
Ticks and Greenbeans
Much cooler today and cloudy. We got a little light rain this morning. Sprinkles really. But I was surprised to find myself with a tick. Now this area doesn’t get ticks much. I haven’t seen one in many years. A sign it’s getting hotter here? A climate change sign? One of the issues with warmingContinueContinue reading “Ticks and Greenbeans”
Keeping everyone as cool as possible-
