AND PERSONAL DISAPPOINTMENT
And sadness for those who you care about but who just don’t care.
I had to turn off the internet for a bit this week. Watching the horror of the Nepal Disaster was beyond what I could continue to watch. It wasn’t AI. It wasn’t computer graphics. It wasn’t movie theater fakery. No. It’s real. And its cause is global warming.
And these things are going to keep happening now with greater and greater frequency.
And the friend who I share land with, who I thought was going to fight to survive, turns out, doesn’t care to. And the words cut deep. She has no idea. And she doesn’t care enough to prepare for survival. She’s started making fun of me for it. And I do it to protect her too because I know she decided she doesn’t like to garden. She hates any aspect of farming or doing physical work outside. She’s not going to survive. She’s already given up because she just doesn’t care at all.
I feel like she’s going to decide she’d rather be in the city. And once again I will be betrayed by someone I’m working hard to protect from what is coming. That I’m going to lose everything. Again. I feel a deep disappointment. All because she had these ideals, similar to mine when we met. She talked a big game. I was actually doing it on the farm. I should have had an inkling when she asked to help on the farm and didn’t last 5 minutes before a scrape sidelined her. I break my leg and I’m planting corn on crutches. She scrapes her hand and wants to give up everything.
I should know by now that you can’t rely on anyone. Ever. Not for the important stuff.
